The Mighty God in Christ: Jesus, the Name Above All Names
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” — Deuteronomy 6:4
The foundation of Apostolic doctrine is the eternal truth that God is One — not three co-equal persons, but one sovereign God who has revealed Himself to humanity in many ways, and most powerfully in the flesh as Jesus Christ. This is the heartbeat of true biblical faith and salvation.
God Manifested in the Flesh
The apostle Paul declared, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…” (1 Timothy 3:16). Jesus was not just a prophet or teacher — He was Emmanuel, meaning “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
In Christ, the fullness of God dwells bodily. As Colossians 2:9 states: “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). There is no separation between the Father and the Son — they are one in essence and being (John 10:30).
Baptism in the Name of Jesus
Jesus instructed His disciples that “repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations” (Luke 24:47). The early church obeyed this fully, baptizing every believer in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).
Baptism is more than a symbol — it is a covenant, a burial with Christ (Romans 6:3–4), and must be done in the name of the one who died and rose again: Jesus. There is no other name given under heaven whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
Before His ascension, Jesus said, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” (John 14:18). He promised to send His Spirit, and that the Holy Spirit would come in His name (John 14:26).
On the Day of Pentecost, this promise was fulfilled. Peter declared,
“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:38)
This same Jesus still baptizes believers with His Spirit today — with the same power, same evidence, and same authority.
All in Jesus
All power in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus (Matthew 28:18). When we call on His name, we invoke the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost — because Jesus is the fullness of God. Everything we do in word or deed, we do in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:17).
Jesus is not part of the Godhead — He is the Godhead manifested. If you have not been baptized in the name of Jesus or filled with His Spirit, this promise is for you — today.
